URBAN INFILL - ART IN THE CORE 4

Featuring: 20 Projects - 350+ Artists - 15+ Venues
4500 in attendance last year

JANUARY 23 to APRIL 10, 2010

Urban Infill - Art In The Core, celebrating it's 4TH year; the next evolution of creative possibilities.  The idea is to help revitalize our downtown core by capitalizing on assets of art and culture and linking and reinforcing connections through accessible empty spaces and existing arts, commercial business / social spaces.  With vision and innovative arts and business we can fill up the empty spaces in our downtown and help to connect and create that unique niche of an urban arts and entertainment district.  The projects comprised of multi-disciplinary and new media / multi-arts by national, international and regional artists will work to enhance our level of arts programming by involving all facets and mediums of the contemporary arts and involving innovative new media technologies.  Premised upon the concept of creative cities partnerships we will utilize our multi-functional gallery spaces as a creative hub for generating collective / collaborative projects not only in our gallery space but in empty / underutilized / established / commercial / art spaces throughout the downtown north core of Thunder Bay.  Re-discover your North core through contemporary art! Last year had an audience of 4,500 over the duration of 20 projects. It begins... January 23, 2010... N-Gage Art!

UP, UP, AND AWAY - JENNIFER DAVIS - PAINTING

Minneapolis - International

February 5 to March 6, 2010

Internationally known Minneapolis based artist / painter Jennifer Davis’s artwork comprises of portraits that have a surreal candy-land exterior full of innocent charm, which only hints at an undercurrent of darker truths.  Her acrylic / graphite paintings on panel contain a mysterious yet familiar language of invented symbols that continually grows, repeats and changes.  The figures in her narratives play out the delicate balance between their beastial natures and the more humane and generous qualities of their souls.  Davis has shown extensively in exhibitions throughout the US and Europe.  All part of DefSup's “Urban Infill  Art in the Core” projects, join us for a Gala Opening Reception Fri. Feb.5 at 8pm, with three new exhibitions featuring regional / national / international artists.  Jennifer Davis will be in attendance and giving an Artists Talk at this, her premiere showing in Canada.  Refreshments, music, performances and of course...Art!
