Regional-Mixed media paintings

Gala Opening Reception-Friday November 20 @ 7-10pm

Kurrents-  is a solo exhibition of new works by Thunder Bay-based artist Quentin Maki (MFA), comprised of contemporary large-scale mixed media painting works, inspired by the ever-changing country landscape in which the artist spent his childhood and in which he now resides. Maki’s new paintings address formal explored aspects as well as the nature of influences helping to shape his work. His detail-rich paintings using mixed media and collage, have allowed him the opportunity to solidify his experiences through the forms that he has created. Fractured collage elements that Maki retrieved from past charcoal and ink studies, evokes for him a deeper sense of history and significance. The application and physical development of these mixed media paintings, also relate to the physicality of the landscape that inspired them. These compositions are not meant to directly reflect the source of the work, but serve as a tangible outcome of their presence. Maki is currently sessional faculty staff in the Visual Arts Dept. at Lakehead University.

Join us for a Gala Opening Reception with Art-Music-Refreshments and Artist Talk by Quentin Maki (gallery 1), and coinciding Annual Regional Exhibition, featuring new works by 25 artists.
