Regional-neo expressionist paintings

Gala Opening Reception-Friday Mar 18+Saturday Mar 19 @ 7pm-10pm

XV: Emergent regional artist from Thunder Bay, Damen Chase Scott in his first solo exhibition, creates large scale neo expressionist paintings that are typically characterized by intense subjectivity, in a rough and emotional way, often using vivid color, drawing, and painting, and married text and image, abstraction, figuration, and historical information mixed with contemporary critique.

Scott: I have always liked to draw. While in school when the pandemic started, I had lots of time on my hands and I decided to direct my creative energies into painting. It quickly became an obsession of mine and I have not stopped painting since, I draw inspiration and influences from many artists such as Jean Michel Basquiat, Mark Rothko, Tim Burton, and Jackson Pollock. When I paint I tend to use my art as a commentary on important and urgent issues that are happening right now or have occurred in the past. I like to paint about people I admire, I am driven to paint until I think I’ve brought enough attention to issues I care deeply about.

Join us for the Gala Opening Reception featuring Art-Music and coinciding shows with Patrick Doyle and the Creators Project-Sofles:Limitless, catered and cool winter refreshments, artist talks and more! Gallery 2. Show closes April 16.
